Happy Mid-week everyone! Today’s post is sort of related to Around the House and Organization…drum roll please!! BIG NEWS! I’m Moving!
Not to Cali yet, people, don’t get too excited; that’s not until June! 🙂 I am, however, moving into my own place after staying with friends for the past few months. After talking to hubs and Atlas (he gets a vote, right?!) we decided that it’d be best for mine and my roommates’ sanity for me to move out of our current location.
I am happy to say, while although gaining a sizable rent payment, I will be moving into a cute one bedroom down the road a bit! I am trying to stow my itch to decorate the heck out of “my” place since everything I get, I have to be able to get into my car to drive cross country in two months. It does inspire me, though, to really downsize my belongings and assess how I can best organize my items during a long haul or move.
Here’s what I’ve found:
1. Spacebag everything fluffy. My clothes, Atlas’ dog bed, my sheets/towels/comforter…All of these things took up a TON of room in my backseat when I moved from Apartment #1 to Apt. #2. I’ll probably hold off during my move to Apt #3, but when I travel cross country to Cali, I’ll definitely need the space!
2. Pack as much into plastic bins as possible. This not only keeps small items from rolling out of bags or getting smashed, but also gives you a nice square base to build on top of when packing the car! I’ve got two big bins like these that I kept all of our “too valuable to trust the Navy to pack” items and one small filing box filled with our billing records
3. Mail excessively bulky, but sturdy items. I’m thinking of mailing my guitar and Atlas’s crate (since he sleeps in bed with me at night and it gated in the kitchen during the day) so that way I save some valuable space in my vehicle in June.
4. Organize, organize, organize! I’m not only going to repack my plastic bins to make sure I’m using every inch of space, but I will be trying out many different car arrangements in the next week or so to map out my packing plan for the Big Move.
I’m on the lookout for even more packing tips. It’s hard to find ones that are for the type of packing I need to do. I don’t have an excess of stuff, but enough to fill the back of my SUV to the top of the window. Let me know if you all have any tips or sites where Ican find even more to help my move(s) more smoothly!
