3T: Homemade Popsicles!

I know I’m about to give you some awesome recipes and  it’s not Sunday, but I couldn’t resist sharing this with you guys!

As many of you are experiencing high temperatures this summer, I’m sure you are looking for cool treats that will keep you from sweating your behind off all season! Not only are homemade Popsicles inexpensive to make, but they are waaaaay healthier than the store bought kind and super easy to make! I suggest making a batch with your kiddos or significant other very, very soon!

Inexpensive Workout Apparel

My husband is awesome.

He works full time, he helps out around the house, and he eats my trial recipes even when they don’t turn out as planned. How lucky am I?! I know, super lucky 🙂

I think the thing I have been valuing the most in him lately, though, is his ability to be patient with me.

Recently I have been working on a fitness plan that will enable me to be able to run a 5K without stopping; something I have yet to accomplish. I’ve run plenty of 5Ks before, but have always stopped to walk at a fast pace because of bridges, cramps, or just being tired part of the way through.

He told me today, though, while on a walk that if I  really want to achieve my goal of running a 5K nonstop, he will help me. How sweet, right? He knows a bunch about running having had to run so often during ROTC, so he’s kind of an expert and a good running coach. I figure, with his help, I will achieve my goal by the end of September. (I’m a stubborn person who is not the best at pushing myself to the limit…I really don’t like the thought of puking after a run, so it stops me short a lot!)

Now all I’ve been thinking about is getting the right gear to help me achieve my goal. I’ve got three pairs of running shorts that I absolutely love and a few sweat-wicking shirts that keep me nice and dry, but having received many of these things as gifts during the holidays, I began to research workout apparel and never really realized how expensive the stuff can be! $52.00 for a lululemon sports bra?! I’m working on a budget here people!

What I’m going to do for you guys is feature three more affordable, but still durable, brands of athletic wear. I will be showing you a sports bra, top, and bottom from each collection and list their prices. Try them out and let me know what you think!

Recipe of the Week: Frozen Buckeye Bites

I’ve been battling the world worst sweet tooth this week.

Let’s be honest though, I’ve been battling it my whole life!

Now, I can usually resist the really bad for me stuff, but one thing I can’t resist is chocolate and peanut butter combo treats.

Every since we were little my mom would make Buckeye Bars, candy Buckeyes, and Peanut Butter Blossom cookies. Chocolate and peanut butter might just be my all time favorite flavor mix ever!

Naturally, then, when I was thinking about what to make this week for the blog, I thought of this classic mix! I decided to put my own little spin on things though to combine the classic Buckeye flavors with a small bite sized morsel I like to call Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Please, please, please try to make these this week. They are amazingly delicious served frozen or refrigerated. I like them frozen the best because they take longer to eat 🙂

The Wife Life’s Frozen Buckeye Bites

Ingredients
3/4 cup crushed graham crackers or graham cracker crumbs
1&1/2 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1 stick butter, melted
1/2 pack chocolate chips
1 Tbsp. butter

Directions
1. Combine graham cracker and powdered sugar in a medium bowl.
2. Add peanut butter and melted butter and mix well.
3. On a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, Roll mixture into 1/2 inch balls and press flat.
4. Place in freezer while you prepare the chocolate.
5. In a microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon butter until smooth.
6. Drizzle or coat peanut butter bites with chocolate mixture and place back in freezer until set.

Cali Travel Part 1: Mount Soledad

Hi friends! I wanted to clue you in on a new trend for The Wife Life:

Most Saturdays will now be Cali Travel Part (1,2,3,4….1000000) posts!!

This is mainly because Atlas has officially started at his new daycare for Saturday day play and is gone from 9-3 every Saturday and is so tired when he gets home, he looks like this…

Great, huh? A worn out pup is a happy pup, right?

Anyways, because he is pretty much taken care of each Saturday, Jeff and I have vowed that we will do something fun together to get to know California. Whether it be dining out with friends, taking in the local sights here in San Diego, or taking a half-day trip, we will (or I will…) be sharing with you all of our experiences!

I highly encourage you all to make a committment to your significant other that involves spending some quality time together. What you do doesn’t have to cost you any money at all, it’s just about being together. And isn’t that the reason you’re with your sig.fig/hubby/wife/bf/gf anyways?

So I present to you all my first Cali adventure with Jeff to Mount Soledad. Before I show you guys all of our awesome pictures from our adventure to watch the sun set over San Diego, let me give you a little background info:

Mt. Soledad is home to a 360 degree view of San Diego as well as a monument to honor those who have fallen while serving our nation. Donors can give money to have their loved ones picture and story put up on the wall to be seen by visitors. It really is an amazing sight to see.

We went up and waited for the sunset. It’s supposed to be one of the most beautiful locations to watch the sun go down over San Diego. Our Sunset, however, looked like this….

Obviously the marine layer/fog prevented us from actually getting to see it, but it was worth it nonetheless!

Week-Long Recap

I had great ideas for every post this week.

I was going to post each morning and knock your socks off with my amazing, witty posts.

..that might be a little exaggerated…

But, I was going to do it, and I got busy.

Doesn’t that happen to everyone? You get so caught up in all the cool, fun things you’re doing (or laundry, and dinners, and other chores) and you just run out of time in the day! If you’re like Jeff and I, you’re still enjoying being just the two of you. We want kids, just not right at this moment. I think we both want a chance to be totally selfish and on our own schedules a few more years. I found this list of 41 Things To Do Before You Have Kids on The Nest and I love it. Some are practical, some are a little racy, but all are great ideas!

Wardrobe Weeding

I’m not sure if any of you are in the same boat as I am, but my closet is overflowing, yet I feel like I only want to wear the same 20 pieces or so because I’m getting tired of everything else…

Recipe of the Week: The Best Brownies You Will Ever Eat

Who I now have a love, hate relationship with because I want to eat these every day, multiple times a day. But my butt keeps screaming “Nooo! Not the brownies! Put down the brownies! For all that is holy in you keeping yourself small!”

So here’s the deal, folks. I knew I was going to make these decadently rich, fudgey brownies this Saturday to take to a friends house for dinner. I knew I would eat three of them for breakfast today after having made them into these delicious ice cream sundaes in a jar. I knew that these HAD to be the recipe of the week this week.

Therefore I concluded that it would be completely wrong to give you a kick-ass workout on Friday, just to ruin it with chocolatey, gooey, deliciously amazing brownies Sunday. So why didn’t I post anything yesterday for What’ on My Mind?

Because I couldn’t get these brownies off my mind yesterday. And I didn’t want to spoil the quality of today’s post with them. Some may call it blogger-slacking, I call it saving the best for today 🙂

So without further ado, here are (what I’m calling) The Best Brownies You Will Ever Eat. Ever. In Your Life.

I dare you to find better ones. Seriously. I double dog dare you….yep. I went there. This is serious 😉

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chunks

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9×9 baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Beat together the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a stand mixer bowl. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition.
  3. Stir together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix in the baking soda.
  4. Mix in the chocolate chunks with a wooden spoon or spatula.
  5. Once the batter forms (it will be thick), scrape it into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes, until brownies begin to pull away from the side of the pan.
  7. Serves 9-12.

I doubled the recipe and put it in a 9×13 glass pan for 45 minutes and they were thick, fudgey, and delicious! Make them this week and take them to work. You’ll probably end up getting a promotion. Just saying 🙂

Pinterest Post: DIY Mugs

So before I show you all my Pinterest Projects from today, I wanted to give you guys the real view of our new curtains in the Master! Jeff found these online at Target and we instantly fell in love!

Onto Pinterest! I decided to put my Pinterest Posts to work for me by making a few items and posting them on my Etsy Page. Today I made three different DIY ceramic mugs inspired by this Pin, this Pin, and this Pin.

Here’s how to make your own at home:

Find a plain white coffee mug. Target, Dollar Tree, and Thrift Shops normally have these for pretty cheap.

Grab a Sharpie in your favorite color and doodle away! Use stickers and dot around them for the “Dotty” Mug or freehand the design of your choice.

Bake the mugs at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes to set Sharpie.

That’s it! Simple, easy, inexpensive personal gift! Also, if you make any mistakes with your Sharpie, just take a Q-tip with a little nail polish remover and wipe off your mistake!

Announcements Galore!

A quick post before bedtime guys:

1. Tomorrrow I will be posting my Wednesday and Thursday Posts. And I have curtains for the Master Bedroom!! Horribly lit picture, but exciting, I know 🙂 Better daylight pics to come tomorrow!

2. Atlas ate a mini tennis ball yesterday, keeping us at the vet/emergency vet all day today. Luckily for us, right before we were about to sign paperwork for them to surgically remove it (and charging us thousands of dollars), he puked it up. Not pretty, but saved us a bunch of money and him a bunch of pain! Win, Win!

Also, the reason for why I haven’t posted anything as of today like I had intended…

3. I opened an Etsy shop today and will be selling some cool Arts&Crafts and Planning stuff if any of you are interested! That is where I will also post any freebies that I feature on the blog and start setting up cool giveaways! I only have one item up as of now, but more will come in the next week or so!

3T: Dog Park Fun!

Hey ya’ll! Happy Tuesday! Yesterday was full of errands and J’s first day back at work so we were busy, busy, busy! Needless to say, I figured you guys wouldn’t want to see the old shorts and an old Staff tee I was rocking all day yesterday in a fashion post 🙂

Today’s Tank Top Tuesday post is about having fun with your pooch! Atlas is pretty much the only little guy that will be in my life in the near future, so we take trips to the park much like you parents would take your kiddos! Lately, Atlas has been loving the beach and open water!

I highly suggest you take your pup to the nearest dog beach/park for three simple reasons:

1. It helps their socialization. Proper socialization = a better behaved pup!
2. It’s a great source of exercise for their bodies! A healthy body will extend their lives to spend with you!
3. It makes them do this….
