The Wedding of the Year!

Hey guys! Blogging from bed today with a box of tissues and a glass of water at my side…I think the 50* wedding day weather got to me! Eeek! So I’ve been working on compiling the best (non-professional) pictures of the day to give you all the best idea of how it all went down! Let me break it down by time of day:

Yes, that’s my dad in the middle in the bee costume…here’s what he did for mine…and the transformations on each of our wedding days!

So when my Brother-in-Law saw that he told him he’d need to top it for their rehearsal. Think he did? šŸ™‚

Jack & Nick decided to book the Spazmatics for the wedding, an 80s cover band. They rock! Check them out!

I hope you all have enjoyed following along with the whole wedding experience! Posts will be back to their normal topics this week so be on the lookout!

Wedding weekend!

So I’ve got a three hour layover in Atlanta on my way back to Florida, so I figured I would give you all a quick photo preview of this crazy, fun-filled wedding weekend!

More pictures to come later!!

Pinterest Wedding Inspiration

So it’s getting down to crunch time! Only 3 more days until The Big Day!! I figured I’d give you all a sneak peek at some of Jack’s wedding inspiration, so as I begin to post pictures this weekend, you have a clear vision.

Like me, my sister is a Pinterest fanatic when it comes to getting ideas for her wedding. I’ll break it down into categories, but all credits can be found on her Wedding Ideas board!

Wedding Feature: Recipe & Fashion

Apologies for not posting yesterday folks! My computer screen decided to stop showing picture yesterday, so I couldn’t post my wedding recipe, so here it is! Now consider yourself special because this is going to be my newest flavor at the cupcakery called Wedding Cake. And yes, I make mini cupcakes as a side job!

Marble Wedding Cake with Mocha Filling – “Wedding Cake”

Cake Ingredients
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 Tbsp. instant espresso powder

Mocha Filling Ingredients
5 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
2 Tbsp. instant espresso powder
1 cup half-and-half
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and lightly flour two 9-inch cake pans; set aside.
2. Set aside 1/2 cup of the flour.
3. In a large bowl, combine the remaining 2 cups cake flour, the baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4. In another large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, granulated sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture. Beat mixture with a wire whisk just until combined.
5. In a medium bowl, combine cocoa powder and espresso powder. Add half of the buttermilk mixture (about 1-3/4 cups), stirring until smooth; set aside.
6. Add the reserved 1/2 cup flour to the remaining buttermilk mixture, whisking just until combined.
7. Spoon half of the white batter evenly into the prepared pan. Carefully spoon half of the chocolate batter atop the white batter in pan in an even layer. Repeat layers with remaining batter.
8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove cake from pan.
9. Split each layer into 2, making four total layers
10. Fill with mocha filling in between cake layers, then frost cake with your favorite buttercream. (I can’t give away all of my secrets people!)
To make filling:
1. Whisk together first 4 ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, 5 minutes or until thickened. Spoon mixture into a small bowl; cover surface of mixture with plastic wrap, pressing wrap onto surface, and let stand 30 minutes or until cool.
2. Beat butter and sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually add cooled cocoa mixture, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until blended after each addition. Add vanilla, beating until mixture is consistency of whipped cream
As for my wedding fashion, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves! Our general theme for fashion on our wedding day was “simple, organic, and semi-casual”

Last Minute Wedding Prep!

So today marks 7 days until my sister’s wedding! How exciting! In preparation for the big day, each day over the next week I will post something wedding related to the Wife Life! Today, in honor of the number seven, I will be posting my top 7 must-haves to make a wedding day go smoothly!

1. Emergency Wedding Kit

My kit had everything from Static-Guard to Deodorant and Mints to Bobby Pins. Whatever I could imagine needing last minute, I put in this bad boy. For a great example, check out this emergency kit list

2. A pretty hanger for the bride’s gown!

I didn’t have one and here’s how my pictures turned out…not so good!

Invest in a simple one like this one from Etsy shop owner MaiCreationsSs and you’ll be forever happy with the dress photos!

3. A water bucket for your flowers

You can’t imagine how fast those horribly expensive bouquets will wilt on a hot day!

4. A practice round of putting the finishing touches on your dress!

a b

My sister did it for me (what a good M.O.H.!) but we staged photos with my mom to make it look like she did it! We knew that my sister would be a perfectionist on this major detail of my dress, so we practiced a few times to make sure we would get it right the first time on the big day!

5. A goodie bag for the ring bearer/flower girl

This not only helped to keep our nieces busy right before the ceremony, but made it easy for their mom to slip out unnoticed after they finished getting their hair done!

6. A photo plan for your guests

All of our attendees (and one of my awesome bridesmaids) were snapping pictures all day and sharing them on social media. It was really hard to find all of the photos and compile them, though, unless we were tagged in the photos on Facebook. For an easier alternative, try creating a Flickr account for the big day or have your friends hash-tag something like #VCWedding so you can easily access and store the photos for later!

7. Have a drink and relax before the ceremony starts!

a b

The guys were mandated to show up at Jeff’s favorite college bar on our wedding day for photos, but they took some time to relax and have a round as well. My girls and I relaxed at the ceremony site while doing our makeup and told funny stories to calm any nerves!

If you or your family/friends are planning/have planned their weddings and you find/found things that help(ed) you prepare, leave me a comment!

Travels to Ohio and Missed Posts

So all I can say is “I told you so!”

As I assumed, I’ve missed a couple posts during my traveling day (Friday) and my sister’s wedding shower day (Saturday). So here’s what you missed:

Fitness Friday: HiitBody workout Day 1: Fitness Challenge
Lisa at is not only a super-fit gorgeous inspiration for anyone looking to get fit, but is realistic in her quest to help others start a healthy lifestyle. She motivates me through the days when I feel like I don’t have the time or motivation to work out since all of her workouts are 12 minutes or less. Lately, her personal videos on Facebook have helped me push past my wanting for junk food so I can stay on track with my fitness goals. I love her!!

Saturday – What’s on my Mind? Wedding Shower Galore!!
I was tasked with theĀ mission to plan my sister’s wedding shower in Ohio….from Florida…
All she gave meĀ for direction was that she wanted “muted neutrals” as her color theme. I ended up designing her invites and centered her theme around “country vintage” andĀ used burlap as my main inspiration. She chose ivory, sage, and lilac as her shower colors.Ā Here’s what some of the details lookedĀ like:

Pinterest Post: First Dance Lyrics Framed

Happy Thursday! Here’s an awesome Pinterest DIY craft idea for anyone you know who is coming up on a wedding anniversary or closely approaching their wedding date. This personalized frame is not only a unique wedding present, but also a great reminder and celebration of an anniversary. Surprise a person close to you with this amazing gift!

ann lyrics 2

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • An 8×8 square frame (or other square frame)
  • Two photo mats (one 6×6, one 5×5)
  • Wedding lyrics printed out on a 5×5 piece of cardstock
  • Two letter punches (one for the bride, one for the groom)
  • One heart punch with the date of the wedding

  1. Print out your lyrics in a 5×5″ square, making sure to use the “Justify” text setting in Word. Tips for making words fit inside of a shape can be found here.
  2. Using a die cut machine, cut out the two initials and heart shapes on colored cardstock. Write the wedding date on the heart or use small number stamps for a cleaner look.
  3. Using glue dots or clear adhesive, adhere the initials and heart onto the printed lyrics page where you see fit; this piece uses the bottom left hand corner.
  4. In the frame, insert the 6×6″ mat, then layer the 5×5″ mat on top of it. Place the lyrics page onto mats and center. Tape the edges to the mat if necessary.
  5. Reassemble the frame, wrap inĀ  kraft paper and tie with colored string to complete the gift wrapping.

I’m making one for Jeff for our one year anniversary in May. It’s hard to believe that a year ago we were hand-in-hand with all of our family celebrating the beginning of our life together!

*note: if you’re the not-so-crafty type, Grace Stone Designs is the original artist for this piece and the product can be bought in her Etsy Shop here. (all photos courtesy of Grace Stone Designs)
